Ras Al Khaimah (RAK)

Ras al-Khaimah is one of the emirates of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), on the east side of the Persian Gulf. The emirate is in the northern part of the UAE, bordering Oman's exclave of Musandam. It covers an area of 1,700 square km. The city has a population of 263,217 as of 2008. It is served by the Ras al-Khaimah International Airport.

Ras Al-Khaimah has two free zones: Ras Al-Khaimah Free Zone Authority (RAKFTZ) and RAK Investment Authority (RAKIA).

RAKFTZ is located in the Emirate of Ras Al-Khaimah, 45 minutes by road from Dubai. It was established in May 2000 by an Emiri Decree from Ras Al Khaimah's ruler His Highness Sheikh Saqr bin Mohammad al-Qassimi, with His Highness Sheikh Faisal bin Saqr Al Qassimi as its Chairman.

RAK FTZ has five parks in Ras Al Khaimah - Business Park, Industrial Park, Technology Park, Aviation Park and Academy Zone. It also has representative offices in Turkey, India, Germany, and USA and is the first free zone to offer business centre as well as innovation and promotion centre facilities in four locations in the UAE.

RAKIA was constituted as per Emiri Decree No. (2)/ 2005 issued by H.H. Sheikh Saqr Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah. The mandate for the authority is to work towards reinforcing the investment climate in the emirate and to promote its various economic sectors.

RAKFTZ and RAKIA companies have relatively simple application forms and require a basic business description or plan and standard corporate documents to be submitted. The application forms and supporting documents can be prepared within a day or two, but the corporate documents must be legalized, which can require two weeks to a month. It takes about two weeks to a month to obtain the trade license (depending on the number of government approvals required and complexity of the license required), unless problems are encountered or issues are raised. We will guide you through the incorporation process and we will provide precise instructions on the corporate documents required and assist with their preparation.

If an onshore company is formed in RAKFTZ or RAKIA we can also assist you to apply for authorities for visas and labor permits, bank accounts, and telecommunications and other utilities.
